New WHO report describes the human exposure to nano- and microplastics and potential risk to human health

As a continuation of a previous report where the evidence for human health risks associated with exposure to nano- and microplastic particles (NMP) in drinking-water was evaluated, World Health Organization (WHO) generated a new report published on Aug 30th, 2022, describing the NMP exposure in a wider scope. The new report was based on literature reviews of studies in which original data on the occurrence of NMP in air, water, food and beverages were reported together with experimental studies on their toxicity as well as clinical observations from occupational settings. It is concluded that NMP are ubiquitous in the environment and have been detected in air, dust, water, food and beverages, which is relevant for human exposure.
