Are you a researcher within the field of nanosafety? Join the research network!
In 2018, SweNanoSafe initiated a national network of researchers active within the field of nanosafety. The purpose of the network is to bring researchers from academia, research institutes and industry in Sweden together to identify research needs, facilitate collaborative research and increase the access to expert knowledge for regulatory authorities and other stakeholders*. At present, the network consists of more than seventy researchers and is continuously increasing.
*If you are interested in answers to specific questions rather than networking, please contact swenanosafe@swenanosafe.se.
What is nanosafety?
Nanosafety is an interdisciplinary area dealing with the environmental, health and safety issues of nanomaterials and nanotechnology. The safety aspects of nanomaterials concern their whole life cycle, such as synthesis, development, production, use and management of waste. Hence, the area of nanosafety combines a broad variety of disciplines, including the development of regulatory frameworks for nanomaterials and communication of the potential risks of nanomaterials.
Why is a research network important?
Swedish nanosafety researchers are based at different workplaces, active in diverse disciplines for example human health, environmental science and material science, making it difficult to keep up to date with ongoing research and to find collaboration partners. By establishing the research network, SweNanoSafe aims to facilitate both knowledge exchange between researchers in the various nanosafety disciplines and knowledge exchange between researchers and other stakeholder groups.
By joining the network, members can present their research and share contact details. A compilation of the members and their areas of expertise will be made available on this page.
Aims of the network are:
- To identify research needs and propose priorities for future research.
- To facilitate the establishment of collaborative research projects.
- To facilitate access to expert knowledge needed by the authorities.
- To increase communication of knowledge to various stakeholders such as regulatory authorities, funding agencies, industry and NGO’s.
- To highlight and to increase the visibility of nanosafety research in Sweden.
- To engage Swedish experts in international bodies, for example the EU, OECD, CEN and ISO.
- To strengthen nanosafety research on a national and international level.
Specific goals for the network include:
- Identification of strong research areas in Sweden and future research needs.
- Influencing research calls at the national and EU level.
- Increased participation from Sweden in EU projects.
- Initiation of collaborative research projects.
- Increased scientific input by Swedish experts to various national and international bodies.
How may SweNanoSafe support activities within the network?
The research network was established at the SweNanoSafe national workshop on research and education on the 13th of June, 2018. SweNanoSafe may support the network by:
- Arranging follow-up workshops on different topics such as material characterization, innovation and Safe by Design and research applications (aimed at companies, academia, regulatory authorities and funding agencies)
- Facilitating discussions on how to collaborate in order to focus research on what is most needed.
- Organising focussed working groups on specific questions with experts from different disciplines.
- Presenting network members and their expertise at swenanosafe.se for visibility, networking, matchmaking and collaboration.
How do I become a member?
If you are a researcher active in an area that addresses nanosafety, you are welcome to join the research network. It is open to anyone interested such as PhD students, postdocs and more senior researchers in academia, and researchers at research institutes and in the industry. Please confirm and provide GDPR-approval, personal information and research discipline when you register.
